Specializing in Adult Forensic Evaluations and Sex Offender Specific Treatment

Sex Offender Specific Treatment

Relying on a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach, we provide evidence based, relapse prevention-focused and victim centered psychotherapy aimed at providing the individual with the knowledge and skills required to prevent future offending behaviors and to promote healthy living.

Sex Offender Assessment

We provide comprehensive and integrated psychosexual risk assessments aimed assessing an individual's risk for offending or reoffending sexually in the community as well as determining treatment needs and risk management strategies. These assessments are aimed at:

  1. Individuals facing sex offense charges

  2. Individuals who have been convicted of a sex offense

  3. Individuals involved in civil cases

  4. Individuals who require psychosexual risk assessments to determine their risks and treatment needs

Services

We are a community based forensic mental health clinic dedicated to the assessment and treatment of sexual abusers and other individuals presenting with a variety of sexual behavior problems; co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues and complex personality disorders. Our clinic offers a standardized, evidenced-based program, relying on a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) approach that serves all levels of risk to target dysfunctional thought patterns and foster positive behavioral change in individuals who present with sexual behavior problems, sexual regulation problems as well as individuals who have been in contact with the criminal justice system as a result of a sex offense. It is important to note that we do not provide psychotherapy in the traditional sense of the term, but rather forensically-informed therapeutic services that are relapse-prevention focused and victim-centered all geared towards recidivism reduction.

Our clinic works with individuals who are self-referred and wish to address their problem behaviors through a course of intensive, research-based, and targeted treatment approach aimed at addressing sexual regulation issues and improving overall functioning and quality of life. We also work with the Maryland Division of Parole and Probation, and with various agencies such as the CSOSA in the District of Columbia, the Bureau of Prisons. We currently hold various contracts with the United States Probation Office and the Montgomery County Pre-Release Center who refer to us convicted sex offenders who need sex offender specific treatment. Our goal is to help those clients transition safely and effectively in the community and to prevent further reoffending behaviors. We also regularly consult and provide training with the Montgomery County Pre-Release Center, and the Office of the Public Defender. Dr. Hildembrand is also regularly retained by a number of criminal defense attorneys who are seeking her expertise for various complex forensic cases. Dr. Hildembrand also regularly consults with mental health professionals related to working with individuals with sexual adjustment issues and who may face criminal charges.  Our clinic has also developed and maintained a collaborative relationship Maryland Board of Physicians, namely through the MPRP Professional Rehabilitation (Maryland Program), which is the physician health program for the state of Maryland, which has referred to us physicians who have engaged in professional boundary violations entailing but not limited to developing sexual relationships with patients. In this context, we consult with the MPRP multidisciplinary team to guide the board’s decision related to their clients’ rehabilitation and license reinstatement.
